Lena: Ann Arbor's Newest Restaurant

On our way to a concert in Detroit, we stopped to visit one of our clients, Lena. We needed some photos for their new website, which we were in the process of designing. A pleasant surprise awaited us, as we not only got to hang out in this sweet hot spot, but we also got to sample the dishes as well.

A sleek interior... modern, clean, and stylish. Welcome to Lena, the newest addition to downtown Ann Arbor's restaurant scene.

A lot of care is taken to make sure each dish looks as good as it tastes!

In all honesty, the food was killer. Typically, you're taught to never eat the food during a photo shoot. I've seen my fair share of butter being used in place of ice cream (to avoid melting) and other abstract items being used in place of certain foods to achieve a look that's more pleasing. But the food in these shots is all 100% authentic, and it tasted amazing.

Once we got some great shots, and had our fair share of fantastic food, we headed off to the concert at DTE. It was a busy day for someone who was 7 months expecting, but who could ask for more? Great food and great entertainment...it really doesn't get any better.

Our Theatre Photos in Mainstream Media

It's always fun to see our photos being used in mainstream media to help promote a great show. There were a few that were featured in a recent broadcast on WZZM promoting Grand Rapids Civic Theatre's Flat Stanly. If you would like to check our more of our theatre photos, view our photos site.

A Beautiful Wedding in Petoskey

I'll let you guys in on what may be a little known secret. About five years ago Matt and I completed a 2 year photography program where we learned the ins and outs of everything from portraits to photojournalism to commercial photography. Photography is something we had both always been interested in and we thought that honing our skills would be a beneficial asset to STUDIO3TWENTY. Aside from having a lot of fun, we were right about the business part of things. We've been able to use our skills to do a lot of photography work for our restaurant clients, headshots for many of our business clients, and of course, the work you've seen us do for the Civic Theatre.

While commercial photography is only a small portion of our actual "day jobs", we do find ourselves doing it as a hobby. So here comes the actual "little known secret" portion. We've photographed a few weddings over the years. We found that it's a great way to keep us on our toes and an awesome creative outlet.

When family friends Laura & Patrick explained their vision for a gorgeous outdoor wedding and reception at the Perry Hotel in Petoskey, we jumped at their offer to photograph it. The ceremony overlooked the bay, which made for a beautiful backdrop.

We spent some time getting group shots downtown Petoskey, which is such a quaint little town.

Congratulations to a wonderful couple...we loved being a part of your special day!

Website Design For West Michigan Specialty Printer

We recently had the opportunity to work with Mettek LLC on a website redesign. After our initial meeting we had a strategy and were ready to move forward.

  • We needed to showcase their products and provide relevant content that would increase their search engine traffic, so we developed a blog.
  • Mettek prints on many different surfaces so we reviewed their products to determine the best way to organize the new website, allowing users to easily find what they were looking for.
  • Because they have so many specialty products and services that needed to be displayed on their home page, we created a JavaScript slider allowing us to show more products, and also increase the use of search engine friendly keywords.
  • Product photography was an important part of this site because Mettek has a great list of clients and sample products that needed to be displayed.

Take a look at the screen shots, or better yet check out their website and let us know what you think.

A Fun Portrait Session, Downtown Grand Rapids

We met Azsure while doing a shoot at the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre. She played a part in "Hello, Dolly!" and offered to work with us on a portrait session. She was a natural with the camera and we had so much fun working with her.
These photos were taken at an abandoned building right next to Grand River. The structure stood empty for years and shortly after our session, it was demolished to make way for Grand Valley State University's downtown expansion project.
The photo above is one of my all-time favorites. Everything in the photo was spot on - the pose, the lighting, the backdrop - so good!
In other fun trivia, this exact area was used to film a scene at the end of the 2011 movie Setup, which starred Bruce Willis, 50 Cent, and Ryan Philippe.
Thanks again, Azsure...we had a great time working with you!
